Calling all land workers – both existing LWA members and producers’ of food, fuel and fibre who have yet to discover the friendly camaraderie of the LWA. During January and February 2015, the Landworkers’ Alliance will be holding a series of regional meetings with the aim of establishing local networks of members around the country. At present members are highly concentrated in the South West, which makes it frustrating for those in far off regions who are unable to benefit from attending farm walks and other events. These gatherings aim to change that, and act as catalysts for the formation of active regional networks. By attending the meeting near you, you can help shape their future. What kind of activities would you value from a regional branch of the LWA? Farm visits/social occasions, seed sharing opportunities, people to organise/travel to campaigning actions with? It may be that it makes sense to join with other organisations, such as the CSA Network or Organic Growers Alliance, for setting up regional networks. It’s all up for discussion, so please come along and put your views about what would make a useful and supportive branch.
Each meeting will consist of a tour of the farm/garden where it is being held, a talk about the Landworkers’ Alliance and a hour to discuss what those in attendance would like from a regional network, as well as ample time to chat informally over a simple lunch.
At these meetings we will also be telling you about some research we are undertaking on the productivity of small-scale, agroecological farms. Together with the Centre for Agroecology, at Coventry University, we are conducting a survey to find out about the physical and financial productivity of agroecological farms of 20ha and less. Whether or not you are able to attend one of our regional meetings, if you run an organic, biodynamic or permaculture holding of we hope you will be willing to take part in our survey (all who complete a questionnaire will be entered into a prize draw to win a £250 voucher which they can spend with www.organicfarmholidays.com ). To request a link to the online questionnaire, please email Rebecca at firstname.lastname@example.org
